Eccleshall managed to withstand a tough pre-season fixture against Leek C.S.O.B

On a damp Thursday evening, Eccleshall returned to Pershall Park to take on Leek C.S.O.B in our third pre-season game.

Eccleshall started the game on top, playing the ball around quickly and creating chances. 12 minutes in, Louie Downs showed just what he can do, with a fantastic finish from the edge of the area.

Eccleshall continued their pressure when five minutes later, a set-piece found its way through to Mills, but an acrobatic stop from the Leek goalkeeper meant the ball hit the bar and went over, keeping the score at 1-0.

Leek grew more into the game as time went on, but Eccleshall were dangerous on the counter, and we grabbed a second just before half time, when a quick counter attack was finshed off nicely by Elliot Booth, meaning the Eagles went into break 2-0 up.

Leek came out after the break with a point to prove, playing a high pressing game forcing a few Eccleshall players into errors.

This gave Leek a route back into the game, when a few defensive errors allowed a tap-in for Leek, pulling the score back to 2-1.

Leek continued to push on looking for an equalizer, but constantly found a brick wall. Solid performances from Callum Downie and Jamie Mountford meant the Eagles stayed ahead for the time being.

Danny Needham, who came off the bench for the second half, had a great game, getting behind the fullbacks constantly and creating chances, but unfortunately, nothing ended up coming of them.

Leek gave a late push but struggled to create much with a solid Eccleshall defense holding strong, meaning the Eagles ran out 2-1 winners.

This was a great test for the lads, coming up against a very game Leek team.

We would like to thank Leek C.S.O.B for travelling to Pershall Park and we wish them the best of luck for this season.

Louie Downs was awarded man of the match, with his terrific strike and work rate helping earn the victory.

Our next fixture is Saturday, when we travel to Mersey Valley for a 3pm kick off.
