Eccleshall's pre-season continued with a 2-2 draw at home to Barnton.

Eccleshall's pre-season preparations continued with a fantastic 2-2 draw with North West Counties Premier Division side Barnton.

It was a slow start to the game, with both sides seemingly quite cautious of the other. Eventually both sides grew into the game, and after 20 minutes, Barnton were enjoying the better of the game.

Reece Quinn in the Eccleshall goal made a fantastic, acrobatic save, to tip the ball onto the bar from a ferocious shot.

Half-hour into the game, Barnton showed their class, with a well worked corner ending up being headed home.

The game wasn't all Barnton however, and Eccleshall's Tom Wakefield had a few chances to get us back into the game, but solid defending and good goalkeeping meant Barnton went into half time just ahead.

Eccleshall came out of the dressing room after half time with a meaning, and looked dangerous whenever they were on the ball. Ishmal Reid, Declan Arber and Wes Nelson caused the Barnton back line all sorts of trouble throughout the second half, but Eccleshall just couldn't seem to find a goal.

That was the story of the second half until the 87th minute when Eccleshall finally found a deserved equaliser. An Eccy cross was cleared out but only to Jordan Benion, who buried it in the bottom corner with an amazing half volley.

Eccleshall then grabbed a second on 90 minutes, when Elliot Booth got beyond the defence and slid the ball home.

But the game wasn't finished there, Barnton got an equaliser deep into additional time with another cross and a nice header, earning a draw for the visitors.

A draw was a fair reflection of the game, with both sides having chances to score more.

Today's man of the match went to Maliki Norford. He ran the midfield and turned defence to attack in an instant.

Our next game is on tuesday night, when we travel to Shifnal Town for a 7.30pm kick off.
