News From The Dugout.....

Good afternoon and welcome to Pershall Park for today’s league fixture against Wythenshawe amateurs.
Last week I spoke about how we needed to work hard to turn luck in our favour and last Saturday we certainly did that. First half I felt we held our shape well & looked dangerous on the attack, deservedly leading at the break. However we failed to get going in the second half, not helped by the appalling tackle on Dan Needham, which has left him on crutches and out of action for the foreseeable. We rode our luck, as Nelson fired several good chances over and had it not been for good positioning from Lewis Dunn we would of fell behind. However, when we needed our quality to shine through we got that, with young James Lewis nodding in a corner in the dying seconds, we certainly got out of jail with that one !
Tuesday was a difficult night, travelling without seven players, the lads that played did our club proud against quality opposition, the important thing is to remember the good moments we had, and there were plenty, whilst learning what it takes to play at a higher standard.
Squad wise, we are certainly stretched, with Dan Needham, Louis Downs, Jake Standbridge & Matt Quimby all injured, however we will have Izaac Walsh & Billy Johnson back into the squad today.
It was good to see Jordan Bennion back in an Eccy shirt on Tuesday, performing well in a centre midfield role. Jordan’s personal circumstances have changed, and he is now living in Manchester, making training and match days difficult to attend.
In recent weeks I have simplified things for the lads, setting them challenges throughout games and I feel they have reacted well to this. My next challenge for them is to up their intensity, both in training and warm ups on match days. Having seen the way Sporting Khalsa approached the game on Tuesday it is something we can learn from.
Please stick with us, this group of players have a special mentality, so many times this season we have been there in the important moments, fighting until the dying ends of the game, away at Maine Road we won the game with the last kick of the ball, away to Coventry we equalised in the 89th minute having been 3-1 down and again last Saturday we won at the death. These players are proud to represent our club and as a group we are sure things will continue to progress and a good run of wins will see us rise up the table.

Enjoy the game,

Nick
