Macron Cup v AFC Darwen

News From The Dugout….

Good afternoon and welcome to Pershall Park for our Macron Cup 1st Round tie against Darwen, a warm welcome to our visitors and we wish them a pleasant journey.
Never ever did I think I would have to write the contents of these notes, it breaks my heart to say, that a week ago we lost Jake Standbridge. Words cannot even begin to express the pain and heart ache felt around the club this past week. Our thoughts and prayers of course lie with Jake’s family and girlfriend Ciera. Jakes memory will stay with us forever.
Last Saturday my full credit goes to the players, having received the news they somehow managed to pull on a kit and play 75 minutes later, regardless of performance or result they displayed such heart and bravery.
On Tuesday we were invited to attend the Alsager Town vs Sandbach United game, joining the two sides on the pitch for a minute’s silence, again a huge thank you to Alsager Town for the invitation.
We moved onto our local derby with unbeaten side Stone Old Alleynians on Wednesday and started the night by paying tribute to our Jake. Despite starting slow we went on to completely control and dominate the game, spending prolonged periods of time in the Stone half moving the ball well, and just as it looked as we would fall short, a deflected Jordan Bennion shot from distance got us our equaliser. What went on after the game, is the worst scenes I have ever witnessed. Given the circumstances of the night, the actions of the Stone bench beggared belief and spoilt what had been an emotional evening.
We will carry Jake with us, throughout the rest of our lives, the strength and unity we have displayed over the last seven days is incredible and now we must strive to do Jake proud every time we step onto the pitch, playing with his attitude and desire to win.

Enjoy the game,

Nick
