Eccleshall FC Pathway Continues to Deliver.

Eccleshall FC Pathway Continues to Deliver.

Rori Thomas

The player pathway continues to grow.

Eccleshall FC is proud to see its developing player pathway continuing to provide young players with genuine opportunities to progress towards senior football, with more of the club’s young talent gaining experience in and around the First Team.

Yesterday saw 16-year-old Gael step up from our U18 Floodlit side to be involved with the First Team, another significant moment for both the player and the club’s commitment to youth development. He was joined by Charlie Padania, who has progressed from the Reserves, following fellow Reserve players Will Silvester and Mikey Dempsey in receiving the First Team call-up and demonstrating the standards required, including finding the net in the 23rd minute.

The progression is not limited to the U18s and Reserves either. U16 goalkeeper Juke Gibbs was also invited to be involved in the First Team warm-up, giving another young player valuable exposure to the senior environment and an early experience of what the next steps on the pathway can look like. The club has previously seen Theo Pinto and Charlie Ashcroft progress from the U18 set-up into First Team involvement, providing further evidence that opportunities are there for young players who continue to develop and demonstrate the right attitude.

An important part of that development has also been the club’s relationship with RTC, with Gael, Theo and Charlie all coming to Eccleshall through that partnership. It is another example of how working collaboratively can create opportunities for talented young players to continue their development and ultimately experience senior football.

For Eccleshall FC, that is exactly what the pathway is designed to achieve. We want young players coming into the club to be able to see a clear and realistic route ahead of them, progressing through the youth structure into our U18 Floodlit team and Reserves, before ultimately having the opportunity to represent the First Team at Step 6.

Chairman, Nick Locke, said:

“This is exactly what we want Eccleshall FC to be about. We want young players and their parents to look at the club and see a genuine pathway that can take them from youth football all the way through to senior football at Step 6.

Seeing players from our U16s, U18s and Reserves getting opportunities in and around the First Team shows what we are trying to build. It isn't about one player or one team, it is about creating a culture across the whole club where development and progression genuinely matter.

Our relationship with RTC is also an important part of that. Seeing three young players come through that relationship and progress within Eccleshall is really positive, and we want to keep developing relationships that give talented young footballers opportunities.”

First Team Manager, Danny Glover, added:

“If a player has the ability and the right attitude, then age shouldn’t be a barrier to opportunity. The young lads stepping up have earned their chance through their performances and the standards they’ve set within their respective teams.

“The important thing is that we now have a clear pathway between the teams. We want players in the U18s and Reserves to aspire to play First Team football and believe that, if they perform consistently and continue to develop, that opportunity will be there for them. This pathway will not only help our young players progress but also strengthen and move the football club forward.”

U18 Manager, Joe Potts, said:

“For us, this is what youth development is ultimately about. We want to compete and be successful, but we also have a responsibility to prepare our players for senior football and help them take that next step.

For Gael to be involved at 16 is fantastic, and when you add that to the opportunities Theo and Charlie have already received, it sends a really strong message to the rest of our players. If they work hard, listen, develop and perform, there is a pathway available to them at Eccleshall.”

Eccleshall FC's ambition is for its youth structure to be much more than a collection of individual teams. We want to create one connected football pathway, where coaches work together, development is recognised and young players are trusted with opportunities when they are ready.

From U16 football to the U18 Floodlit team, through the Reserves and ultimately into the First Team at Step 6, we want young players to be able to see where their journey could take them.
