Eccleshall returned to league action after two weeks of cup ties, hoping to build on three successive league victories prior to that against Cammell Laird. Luke Lewis returned to the starting line up and new signing, Jack Dundas, was on the bench.
Eagles went behind on six minutes when Luke Blondel's initial effort was well saved by Louis McCarthy but he was able to knock in the rebound. Their lead only lasted four minutes when referee Parkes awarded Eccleshall a penalty for a foul by Jack Lloyd. Jordan Benton stepped up to beat Lairds 'keeper Richie Cowderoy from the spot to equalise. Play from then was pretty even but Blondel and Kyle Sambor were causing problems for the Eagles defence with their pace. A corner by Nathan Haynes was almost forced home and then Joshua Donnelly outpaced Joe Griffiths before forcing a save from McCarthy. Blondel then turned Jake Langdridge before firing just wide of the post. McCarthy was called into action again as the whistle went for half time.

Eagles looked more positive in the early stages of the second half and a Callum Feeney effort from outside the box brought a flying save form Cowderoy to tip the ball over the bar. Shay Finney then had another chance but topped his shot. On 64 minutes, Lairds took the lead again when Tom Wakefield lost the ball upfield and a quick move forward led to Sambor rounding McCarthy before slotting the ball into the net. In response, the Eagles management brought on Matt Kimmins and Jack Dundas but it was not long before Lairds scored again. Another attack down the middle led to Blondel outpacing Langdridge before pushing the ball past McCarthy to put them 3-1 up. Moments later, it was almost four when a run down the left led to Blondel putting the ball the wrong side of the post. Ryan Baxter was brought on for Lewis as Eccleshall looked to get something from the game but they went further behind on 80 minutes when Sambor found the far corner of the net from a tight angle, beating the diving McCarthy. Four minutes later, Harvey Collins pulled one back when he cut inside beating two players and rifled a low powerful shot past Cowderoy into the far corner. As Eccleshall pushed forward, a Louis Downs shot hit the angle of bar and post before going over. Defeat prevented Eccleshall from moving up to fifth in the table and will look to get back on track when hosting Stockport Town at Pershall Park next Saturday.
